Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - Rookie catcher Steve Zimmerman went two for three with a two-run double, a walk, and a stolen base to lead the RedHawks past the Texas AirHogs in a 9-4 win Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field. Reese Gregory grabbed his second win in his second start of the season.
The RedHawks answered a Texas run in the first inning with a score of their own that came on a Keury De La Cruz single to right field. De La Cruz finished the game two hits and an RBI.
Fargo-Moorhead took the lead in the third inning when the lineup exploded for a four-run inning that was ultimately enough for the win. Leo Pina doubled home Maikol Gonzalez and Devan Ahart to start the scoring, and, after new signing Chris Jacobs scored on a wild pitch, Pina scored on a sacrifice fly by Tim Colwell to give F-M a 5-1 lead after three innings.
Gregory shut down the AirHogs for three innings before they got to him in the fifth for three runs. The right-hander from Sartell, Minnesota gave up nine hits and four runs (two earned) in 5.0 innings on the mound. He is 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA in eight games (two starts) since signing with the RedHawks on May 29.
Anthony Pacillo and Jose Nivar each made shutout appearances in relief before Travis Ballew came on to retire the Texas side in order in the ninth and finish the game. The RedHawks pitchers combined for five strikeouts tonight.
The RedHawks can clinch a series win over the AirHogs with a win tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15PM on Military Appreciation Night, with gates opening at 5:30PM.
