Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the addition of midfielder Nick Zimmerman to their 2015 USL roster.
Zimmerman joins the Hammerheads after spending four seasons in the North American Soccer League with the Carolina RailHawks. The midfielder made 60 appearances and scored 21 goals during his time with the club and named Most Valuable Player in 2012.
"Nick has 'no-brainer', high-level player qualities that make him a major acquisition to our team," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "What I like just as much as his soccer qualities is the passion he works with. He loves the game, he is committed to himself and his teammates, and he wants to be here and help this team succeed."
Prior to his long-term stint with the RailHawks, Zimmerman made his professional debut after being drafted in the third round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by New York Red Bulls. He was later picked up by Philadelphia Union in the 2009 MLS Expansion Draft and loaned to the Harrisburg City Islanders during the 2010 season.
Zimmerman attended James Madison University where he was a four-year starter appearing in 75 matches and scoring 13 goals. He was a member of the United States U-15 National Team in 2001.
The Hammerheads take the field for their final preseason match on Saturday, March 21 at 5:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium versus the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Admission to the match is free. The team kicks off their 2015 USL regular season at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 28 versus the Richmond Kickers at Legion Stadium.
