Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - Needing a win in Sunday afternoon's finale against the Mets to salvage the split in their six-game series, the Buffalo Bisons came through with two runs in the sixth and seventh to pull away for a 5-2 victory. T.J. Zeuch (1-3) earned his first win with a season-high seven innings and Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio ripped a first inning home run to open the scoring in the first game on his rehab assignment.
Fellow Major League rehabber Thomas Hatch looked sharp over his two innings, needing just 29 pitches to get six outs while allowing just one walk. Zeuch's first inning in the third went 1-2-3 despite a leadoff single from Martin Cervenka, who was forced out two batters later when Drew Jackson hit into a 6-4-3 double play.
Biggio's first inning home run to dead center held for the Bisons against Mets starter Jesus Reyes, who saw his offense get him the tying run back on Orlando Calixte's two out single in the fourth. The home half was rather bizarre as Reyes surrendered four straight singles to open the inning, but got help from Jackson in left when he threw out Kevin Smith at the plate for the first out of the inning. With two more chances with the bases loaded, Reyes worked his way out of the jam to keep the score tied.
His luck ran out in the sixth when Riley Adams walked and Tyler White singled to start the inning. Two batters later, Juan Graterol dunked a single into right to load the bases again, and this time Logan Warmoth and Dilson Herrera came through with runs batted in for a 3-1 lead. Later in the seventh, Graterol found himself up with the bases loaded and two outs, lining a two-RBI single into left to extend the Bisons lead to 5-1.
Syracuse came back with a run in the ninth off Zeuch, who finished off his seven innings to get the Herd (15-13) ready for their six-game series starting Tuesday night against the RailRiders.
The homestand continues on Tuesday, June 8 at 7:00 PM when the Bisons welcome the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to Trenton Thunder Ballpark for the first time this season. Pregame coverage with Gregg Caserta and Dave Schofield starts at 6:30 with the Thunder/Bisons Pregame Show on the Thunder/Bisons Radio Network.
