New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Shawn Estes held the New Orleans Zephyrs to three hits over six scoreless innings, and the Albuquerque Isotopes completed a three-game sweep at Zephyr Field on Tuesday afternoon, 4-2. The loss was the Zephyrs' seventh straight at home to begin the season, keeping them the only team in the Pacific Coast League without a home win.
Estes (1-1) notched only one strikeout, but retired eight in a row at one point to lower his ERA to 2.37.
New Orleans starter Dallas Trahern took the loss, allowing one run and four hits in four innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Trahern (1-2) fell behind in the second inning. After Dee Brown led off with a double and Hector Luna walked, Chin-Lung Hu lined a single up the middle to give Albuquerque the lead. Trahern then walked A.J. Ellis to load the bases, but struck out Estes and got Jason Repko to ground into an inning-ending double play to avoid further damage.
The Z's trailed 4-0 in the eighth when Jai Miller walked and John Raynor singled to put runners at the corners. With two out, Gaby Sanchez and Michael Ryan delivered consecutive RBI singles, but Alex Gonzalez grounded out, ending the threat.
The Zephyrs are off Wednesday and resume play at Oklahoma City on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
