Tacoma Takes One from Colorado Springs, 6-3

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox dropped the final game of a four game set to the Tacoma Rainiers by a score of 6-3 in front of 2,808 fans at Security Service Field on Tuesday evening.

Tacoma starting pitcher Andy Baldwin (1-0) was the big story for most of the night taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning only to see it broken up by Sky Sox starting catcher Edwin Bellorin when Bellorin was able to squeak out a double that bounced off right fielder, Prentice Redman's glove. Carlos Gonzalez helped the Sky Sox get their first run off Baldwin in the sixth when he singled in Jonathan Herrera making it 6-1 Tacoma. That would prove to be the only blemish on Baldwin's night, he finished up with six innings pitched giving up one run on three hits and striking out five.

Up until the fifth the Sky Sox weren't doing much offensively, defensively they did well up until the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Brandon Hynick (1-2) held the Rainiers to just one run through four innings, that run coming by way of a ball that was smoked over the left field fence by third baseman Chris Shelton. Then the fifth inning came and things began to fall apart for Hynick. Freddy Guzman singled in left-fielder Brian LaHair to get things going for the Rainiers in the inning. Shortstop Chris Woodward belted a two-run jack off Hynick, and Jeff Clement followed up Woodward with a dinger of his own giving the Rainiers back-to-back homers extending their lead to 5-0. Freddy Guzman would add one more run for the Rainiers in the sixth giving them a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Sky Sox would go on to score two more runs, one coming from Gonzalez in the eighth, giving him his second RBI on the night, and another on an RBI from Christian Colonel in the ninth. The late inning rallies proved to be too little too late for the Sky Sox as they succumbed to the Rainiers 6-3.

The Sky Sox have an off day in between series, their next game will be the first of a four game series Thursday night and will feature RH Alan Johnson (3-0, 1.96) versus RH Vin Mazzaro (0-0, 1.35) of the Sacramento River Cats.
