
Zephyrs Defeat Trappers, 6-3

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Raul Chavez had a pair of hits and drove in four runs to help the New Orleans Zephyrs defeat the Edmonton Trappers, 6-3 on Thursday Night in Edmonton.
Chavez grounded out to force in a run in the second inning, hit a run-scoring single in the third, launched a leadoff homer in the sixth and added a sacrifice fly in the ninth frame to cap the scoring for New Orleans. Dave Matranga hit a solo homer in the seventh frame and John Buck went 3-for-5 with a run scored for the Zephyrs, who won for the fourth time in five games.
Doug Sessions (1-1) yielded two runs and scattered six hits, fanning three, in six innings to earn the win. Kirk Bullinger struck out a batter in a scoreless ninth to earn his seventh save. Val Pascucci and Randy Knorr each drove in a run and Edwards Guzman finished with three hits and a run scored for Edmonton, which lost for the seventh time in eight games. Eric Knott (2-4) surrendered five runs and 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings to suffer the loss for the Trappers.
The Zephyrs, who are 4-3 on the current road trip, conclude the road trip on Friday at 8:05 p.m. against the Trappers. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs calling the action.
