
Zephyrs and Sounds Split Doubleheader

METAIRIEâThe New Orleans Zephyrs (50-35) and the Nashville Sounds (46-38) split a doubleheader on Tuesday Night at Zephyr Field in front of 10,931. The Zephyrs won game one 3 to 2 while the Sounds won game two 4 to 1.
In the first game, the Zephyrs were led by outfielder Colin Porter who was 1- with two RBI including his sixth home run of the season. The Z's scored first as Raul Chavez who doubled to lead off the second, advance to third on an Alan Zinter fly out and scored on Porter's fly out to left. The Sounds countered with a run in the third as Brad King doubled off Zephyrs starter Roy Oswalt who was making a rehab start for Houston and came around to score on a ground out by Dave Doster. New Orleans countered in the third as Henri Stanley tripled and scored on a fly out by Royce Huffman.
Oswalt pitched three innings allowing one run on three hits while tossing 50 pitches. Colin Porter hit his sixth homer of the season in the fourth. Nashville would score a run in the fifth off Z's reliever Rob Stanifer but that was not enough as Kirk Bullinger pitched a perfect seventh for his thirteenth save of the season. Ken Vining pitched a scoreless fourth to pick up the win and improve to 3-2. Sounds starter John Wasdin (7-4) suffered the loss pitching six hits allowing three runs on four hits.
In game two, Sounds starter Nelson Figueroa (8-5) would pitch six innings allowing only one run on six hits to pick up the win. Sounds outfielder J.J. Davis would hit a three run homer off Z's reliever Greg Miller in the sixth. Z's starter Bob Scanlan pitched five innings allowing one run on three hits to drop to 0-3 on the season. Mark Corey would pitch a perfect seventh to pick up his league leading 24th save of the season.
The Z's remain 3 ½ games ahead of the Sounds and continue the four game series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday is Pack the Pantry as fans receive a four dollar ticket to the game for each can good they bring.
