Metairie, LA â The New Orleans Zephyrs, the Class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros are pleased to announce that Zephyrs right-hander Doug Sessions is the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week for games beginning on June 23 and continuing through June 29 for not allowing an earned run in two starts while racking up two victories.
Sessions, a resident of Orange Park, Florida, who last week was selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team, allowed one unearned run on five hits through six innings in his first start of the week on June 24, a 3-1 win over the Tacoma Rainiers. The Houston Astros prospect then won his second start of the week on June 29 by again allowing just one unearned run on two hits through eight innings in a 5-1 defeat of Albuquerque. The right-hander has won five straight while lowering his earned run average to 2.00, second best in the PCL.
The Zephyrs open a four game series with Eastern Division Rival Nashville Sounds on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. with a doubleheader. The Z's lead the Sounds by 3 ½ games. The Game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs and Ron Swoboda calling the action.
