Zephyr Bats Come Alive To Beat Express
June 1, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Zephyr offense appeared well rested as they pounded out 13 hits to beat the Express 7-1 Monday afternoon at Zephyr Field. One night after being two-hit by Round Rock pitcher Yorman Bazardo, the Z's bats came alive as they hit four doubles on the day.
Andy Gonzalez went 4-for-4, including a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning to give the Zephyrs an early lead that they would not relinquish. Gonzalez has been on fire recently, batting .440 in the team's last eight games.
Catcher Brad Davis went 2-for-4 with his first two RBI for the Z's, and first baseman John Purdom went 3-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored. Right fielder Jai Miller also added two hits and scored two runs in the team effort.
The four hitters in the fifth through eighth spots in the Zephyrs lineup combined to go 11-for-16 with six RBI and four runs scored.
Ricky Nolasco (1-1) was able to throw seven strong innings to record the victory. Nolasco, who did not get into a jam all game, allowed only one run on six hits while striking out five.
With the victory, the Z's were able to split the series 2-2. New Orleans will be back in action Tuesday night when division-leading Albuquerque comes to Zephyr Field. Willie Collazo (RHP) will take on Miguel Pinango (RHP) in the first game of the series for the Z's.
