Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, CA - Grizzlies outfielder John Bowker has been selected as the Pacific Coast League's Hitter of the Week for the week ending May 31st, the League announced today. The 25-year old outfielder batted .536 over the course of seven games against Omaha and Portland, and helped lead the Grizzlies to a 5-2 record over that stretch.

Bowker was 14-for-26 (.538) with two doubles, two home runs, and seven RBI for the week. The Sacramento native is batting .338 (9th in the PCL) with four home runs, ten doubles, and 29 RBI on the season. He also currently ranks 4th in the League with a .447 on-base percentage, and 5th in the circuit with 31 walks this season.

The Grizzlies have won 5 straight games and are currently in second place (28-22) in the PCL Pacific Southern division as they enter tonight's game at Chukchansi Park in search of a sweep of the visiting Portland Beavers. Since being swept by Portland in April at PGE Park, Fresno has the best record in the Pacific Coast League at 26-12.

Bowker was originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 3rd Round of the 2004 Draft out of perennial collegiate powerhouse Long Beach State. He made his Major League debut with the Giants in 2008 and became just the 8th player in franchise history to homer in his big league debut. In 2007 Bowker established a franchise record with 22 home runs at Double-A Connecticut.

John Bowker is the second Grizzly to be honored by the Pacific Coast League this month. Jesus Guzman was selected as the PCL's Hitter of the Week for the week ending May 3rd. Round Rock Express pitcher Yorman Bazardo was announced today as the League's Pitcher of the Week.

The Grizzlies will wrap up a four-game homestand tonight at Chukchansi Park against the Portland Beavers before hitting the road for four games in Colorado Springs against the Sky Sox.
