York, P.A. - The York Revolution defeated the Newark Bears 11-8 Saturday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, Pennsylvania. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak over the Revolution.

The Revolution took an early advantage in the home first against Kelvin Villa. Scott Grimes started things off with a double and came home three batters later on a RBI groundout by Erold Andrus to make it 1-0 York. Eight batters came to the plate in the second inning with two more runs coming home on a Chuck Jeroloman RBI single and a RBI walk by Liu Rodriguez and the lead grew to three run.

Matt DeSalvo held the Bear bats in check through the first two perfect frames with four strikeouts. Newark broke up the perfect game, no-hitter and shutout with the first three batters of the third inning. Manny Mejia walked followed by a James Cooper double and Paddy Matera brought in a run with a RBI groundout to put the Bears on the board. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases and Sandy Madera plated another run on a RBI fielder's choice and it was 3-2 Revs.

York answered right back with a nine-batter third inning with four more runs touching home to push the advantage to 7-2 and end Villa's night. Ian Bladergroen and John Pachot registered RBI hits with the big blow coming off Jeroloman's bat with a two-run single. The Revolution added four more in their second nine-batter inning in the fifth inning off reliever Nick Renault. Rodriguez and Andrus connected on RBI singles and James Shanks plated a pair with a bloop single into right and the lead grew to 11-2.

Newark clawed back again scoring in the three of the final four frames. Brian Barton singled, moved to second on an error, and scored on an Eric Munson one-out RBI single to start the sixth inning. Mejia singled and was followed two batters later by Matera's first hit since rejoining the Bears, a two-run single, put the Bears within six runs. In the seventh inning off reliever Cory Willey, Kennard Jones ripped a double and Carl Everett brought him home, picking up his 54th RBI of the season. Newark loaded the bases in the visitor's eighth against Dustin Pease as Jones plated a run with a RBI fielder's choice to make it 11-8. Pease, though retired the next two batters to end the frame and R.J. Rodriguez worked a perfect ninth to secure his seventh save.

DeSalvo (3-1) got the win, firing six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, with three walk and seven strikeouts. Villa (3-8) was dealt the loss, surrendering seven runs, six earned, on five hits, with four walks in two and one-third innings.

Newark looks for the series win on Sunday afternoon against York in the series finale. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Newark returns to Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Tuesday, September 7 to begin the final homestand of 2010 with seven games against Southern Maryland and Camden. The Bears will face-off with the Blue Crabs in a doubleheader, two seven-inning games, on Tuesday.
