Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - The Miami Marlins' top prospect, Christian Yelich has been activated today from the disabled list. Yelich was placed on the DL on May 31 after sustaining a concussion in a game against the Charlotte Stone Crabs.
This was Yelich's second stint on the disabled list this season. He began the year on the 7-day DL after suffering an elbow contusion from a teammate losing control of his bat while Yelich was in the on-deck circle before the conclusion of Spring Training. The concussion came when Yelich took a knee to the helmet from the Stone Crabs third baseman while sliding head-first into the bag after connecting on a triple. Yelich was removed from the game for a pinch runner.
Yelich was named to the Florida State League All-Star team which took place last weekend, however did not participate as he was yet to be medically cleared. Yelich was also named the FSL Player of the Week for April 16-22.
Despite missing a total of 25 games due to injury this season, Yelich is second on the team with 11 doubles and seven home runs. He is tied for the Hammerheads' team lead with 11 stolen bases.
In a corresponding move, Michael Main has been transferred to the Gulf Coast League Marlins roster.
The Hammerheads play game two of a three-game series against the Fort Myers Miracle with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. tonight at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, FL. Yelich is in the lineup playing center field and batting third.
