
Yard Goats Win Again, Toglia Homers in Five-Run Sixth, as Hartford Wins 8th Straight Contest

Portland, Maine- Michael Toglia blasted a go-ahead three run home run in the sixth inning leading the Yard Goats to a 7-3 victory on Saturday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Toglia's 11th homer of the season highlighted a five-run sixth inning, as the Yard Goats beat the Sea Dogs for the fifth straight game this week. The victory improved the first-place Yard Goats to a franchise best 37-19 record, and Hartford has won a season-high eight consecutive games. In addition, the Yard Goats are a franchise-high 18 games above .500. Only 13 games remain in the first half of the season as the Yard Goats try to reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the third inning off Sea Dogs starter Victor Santos. Niko Decolati reached on an error, stole second base and took third on a grounder. Then Ezequiel Tovar knocked him home with a two out single to centerfield, giving Hartford a 1-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs tied the game in fourth inning as Ceddanne Rafaela cranked a solo home run off Hartford starter Mitch Kilkenny. Kilkenny pitched well in 3.1 innings in his second start since returning from the Injured List.
The Yard Goats broke the 1-1 tie and scored five runs in the sixth inning. Daniel Montano and Aaron Schunk singled and Michael Toglia followed with a long three-run homer, his second in two games, giving Hartford a 4-1 lead. The Yard Goats added another run-on Willie MacIver's RBI single, and Hunter Stovell contributed with a run-scoring double to make it 6-1 after six innings.
The Sea Dogs closed the gap to 6-3 with a pair of runs in the eighth inning. However, Gavin Hollowell gave in and worked around a bases loaded situation and got a double play to end the inning. Hollowell worked a perfect ninth for his seventh save. Will Gaddis retired all five batters faced in 1.2 innings with a strikeout to earn his second win.
The Yard Goats and Sea Dogs will play the final of a six-game series on Sunday afternoon (1:00 PM) at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Hartford will go for its first eve six-game sweep. RHP Michael Baird will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Brett Kennedy will start for the Sea Dogs. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, June 14th against the Akron RubberDucks.
