Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Manchester, NH - The Hartford Yard Goats smashed three home runs and cruised behind starter Noah Davis for a 4-1 road victory against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. Davis recorded seven strikeouts, and allowed just one run on four singles in 4.2 innings of work. Steven Jones retired all four batters faced to earn his first Double-A win. Willie MacIver, Jimmy Herron and Kyle Datres all went deep as the Yard Goats avoided a third straight loss. Fisher Cats starter Max Castillo fired five scoreless innings and combined with three relievers on a 3-0 win in game two. The Yard Goats dropped four of six games on their first road trip, and return home to host the Yankees affiliate, Somerset on Tuesday.

In game one, the Yard Goats scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Fisher Cats starter Paxton Schultz. Jameson Hannah led off the game with a single, stole second base and took third on a flyout. With two outs, catcher Willie MacIver belted a pitch over the left field fence, giving Hartford a 2-0 lead on his third homer of the season.

The Yard Goats added a run in the second inning as outfielder Jimmy Herron ripped a line drive over the right field fence to make it 3-0. It was Herron's third homer in nine at-bats in 2022. DH Kyle Datres capped the homer parade with a solo shot in the fourth and it was 4-0 Hartford. The Fisher Cats scored their only run on Ryan Gold's two-out single in the fifth inning. Lefty, Nick Kennedy struck out two as part of a perfect inning to register his first save.

In game two, Zac Cook got the Fisher Cats going in the third inning, with a two-run homer to right field off Hartford starter Garrett Schilling. The one-out blast came after a double by first baseman John Aeillo. The right-hander retired three of the next four batters faced in his second start of the season. New Hampshire added an insurance run in the fifth as Aeillo smashed a solo homer off lefty reliever PJ Poulin.

Hartford's best scoring opportunity came in the sixth inning as it chased reliever Parker Caracci from the game with a double by second baseman Isaac Collins, and a walk to shortstop Coco Montes. However, Jake Elliott came in and retired the next two batters to end the threat. The Yard Goats turned four double plays in six innings on defense.

The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, April 19 (7:05 PM) against the Yankees affiliate, the Somerset Patriots. RHP Karl Kauffmann will start for the Yard Goats, and RHP Jhonny Brito will start for the Patriots. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP.
