Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz shocked the visiting Lubbock Renegades with a 74-62 victory in front of 6,134 fans at Ford Center Saturday, June 28th.

Lubbock scored on their first possession when FB Orlando Medlock took the ball 2 yards for the score. An Evan Gray interception gave the Renegades the ball deep in Yard Dawgz territory and they quickly scored on a 6 yard pass from QB Robert Kent to WR Alvance Robinson. Gray connected with WR Steve Smith twice in the quarter but Lubbock's offense responded on the next possession and finished the quarter with a 7 point lead.

The Dawgz scored an impressive 22 points in the second quarter (2 Al Hunt scores and 1 score by WR Ajim Shabaj) and held the Renegades to only one score. With momentum on their side, Oklahoma City led going into halftime, 35-28.

Oklahoma City was the first to score in the third on a 2 yard run by af2 veteran Al Hunt. Hunt's TD made him the 3rd person in af2 history to reach 1,000 career points. Lubbock responded with their own 2 yard TD run by Medlock. Steve Smith added 6 more on a 17 yard pass from Gray. Lubbock WR Grant Walker scored 6 points for the Renegade and brought Lubbock within 6 at the end of the third.

The Dawgz scored four times in the final quarter but the Renegades took over the lead late in the quarter with a 31 yard TD catch by WR Corey White. With only 2:30 seconds remaining in the game, the Dawgz were down by 2 when the Offensive Player of the Game, Al Hunt, powered his way into the end zone for the TD and 2 point conversion. Following Hunt's fifth touchdown of the night, linebacker Fred Shaw recovered the onside kick to keep the ball with the Dawgz. The Dawgz scored once again on a 5 yard run from JLS Ironman of the Game, Freddie Rollins. The Renegades could not get into the end zone again and the Dawgz came away with the 74-62 upset.

The Dawgz have a bye week on July 5th and will head to South Georgia on July 12th. The Dawgz will host the Tulsa Talons on Saturday, July 19th; kick-off is set for 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard by tuning into JOX 930 AM or www.jox930.com.
