Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Yard Dawgz fourth season is quickly approaching and the team's latest assignments bring a wealth of experience and national recognition.
WR/LB Carlos Johnson (5'11, 190) was with the franchise last season and brings a total of 9 years arena football experience. He spent two years on the practice squad for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League before being traded to the Portland Forest Dragons in 1999. Johnson signed with the AFL's Oklahoma Wranglers where he led the League with 122 receptions for 1,417 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Before finding his way to the Yard Dawgz in 2006, Johnson was with the AFL's Tampa Bay Storm, New Jersey Gladiators, and Grand Rapids Rampage.
"Johnson is an arena football veteran and knows this game better than most. We're fortunate to have someone with his knowledge and experience on our roster," commented Head Coach John Fitzgerald.
Stan Hill (6'3, 215) comes to the team with one year of af2 experience on his résumé. Hill saw limited action while with the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings and will challenge Justin Allgood and newcomer Jerad Romo for the starting quarterback position.
The Marshall University starter was the nation's second highest rated quarterback and had the 4th best completion percentage in 2003. During his four seasons with the Thundering Herd (2001-2004), Hill threw for 4,711 yards, 38 touchdowns, and represented Marshall in the Las Vegas All-American Classic game. He was one of twenty-two candidates selected for the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, presented annually to the nation's top senior quarterback.
"Hill comes from a long line of successful Marshall Quarterbacks which include NFL stars Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich," commented Fitzgerald. "I expect him to become one of the most accomplished arena quarterbacks and to become an instant a leader on the field."
Center Matt Storm (6'1, 280) earned Lone-Star Conference First Team accolades in 2005 and 2nd team honors in 2004 while at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Storm stepped into the starting position for the Tigers after a two year stint at Mt. San Antonio Junior College where he made the 2003 All-California team.
