Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced today that Offensive Coordinator Ken Mastrole is stepping down after 2 seasons with the team as a coach. Mastrole's, offense was ranked #1 in the af2 last season averaging 59.2 points per game, scoring a league high 129 touchdowns in the regular season.

"Mastrole did a great job calling our offense the last two seasons," said Head Coach Kevin Bouis. "It's tough making that transition from player to coach, but Ken made it look easy."

Mastrole suited up as quarterback for the Firecats in 2001 and then again in 2003 & 2004. He finished his Firecats playing career throwing for 8099 yards and 179 TD's while leading Florida to the 2004 ArenaCup Championship.

"After spending more than 16 years playing and coaching football at every level from Pee-Wee's to the NFL to the af2 it was a hard decision make" Mastrole said. "I know I'm going to miss being around the guys. The Vallozzi family has been so good to me over the years and they've assembled another great team this year, it's really hard to walk away. I think, however, it's time for me to move on and focus on my career after football."

The Firecats have not yet named a new Offensive Coordinator for the 2007 season.

"We appreciate everything Kenny has done for the organization," team President and General Manager Chris Vallozzi said of Mastrole's decision to step away from the game. "After winning a championship as a player and then coaching our team to our two best regular season records in two years, we will miss him and we wish him well in his future endeavors."
