OKLAHOMA CITY- Jarrail Jackson's grand performance and Al Hunt's four touchdown catches lifted the Oklahoma Yard Dawgz to a 64-63 win over the Bakersfield Blitz Saturday night at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, and also lifted the Yard Dawgz back into sole possession of first place in the af2's Midwest Division.
The Yard Dawgz (8-3) had to hold their breath as a last second 31 yard field goal attempt by Bakersfield's (7-4) Jarret Johnson missed wide left. The win coupled with Tulsa's loss to Manchester and Arkansas' win over Rio Grande Valley gives the Yard Dawgz a one game lead over their two nearest divisional rivals.
Jackson pulled in seven catches for 73 yards, giving him 1,060 on the season, his second straight year of 1,000 receiving yards. He also electrified the 7,107 fans on hand with a scintillating 57-yard kickoff return in the second quarter which gave Oklahoma City a 42-28 lead.
Hunt also had another stellar evening as he led the Yard Dawgz in receiving yards with 104 and pulled in four touchdown passes from Craig Strickland. Hunt now has 25 TD catches on the year, second on the team behind Jackson's 27. His 16-yard touchdown catch with 48 seconds left provided the final margin of victory, forcing Bakersfield to try the long last gasp field goal the sailed wide off Johnson's foot.
Strickland tossed five touchdown passes against the Blitz giving him 70 on the year. He wound up with 245 passing yards on the night, including a 49-yard touchdown to Hunt in the second quarter, igniting a 31 point barrage for the Yard Dawgz in that quarter.
The Yard Dawgz travel to Rio Grande Valley on June 24th. They don't return home to the Ford Center until July 15th when they will face Arkansas for a 7:05 kickoff.
