Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees blew out the Fort Myers Miracle, 13-6, at Steinbrenner Field on Thursday evening.
The Miracle loaded the bases and capitalized on an error to jump out to an early advantage. Tanner Witt led off the game with a line drive hit to left off Yankees starter James Reeves. After T.J. White flew out to center, Nick Gordon singled to left center. Reeves then hit Trey Vavra with a pitch to load the bases. LaMonte Wade then hit a one-hopper that scooted under the glove of Thairo Estrada for an error. Two runs scored. A.J. Murray followed with a sacrifice fly to center, 3-0.
In the bottom of the first, Tampa sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs. With one out, Thairo Estrada hit a bouncing ball double down the third base line against Miracle starter Randy Rosario. Trey Amburgey then hit a grounder to deep short. Gordon's throw sailed into the Tampa dugout and Estrada was awarded home and Amburgey second. Rosario (5-5) followed with a walk of Zack Zehner. Abiatal Avelino roped a double into the left field corner to plate Amburgey. Kevin Cornelius followed with an RBI ground out to second and Vicente Conde doubled in a run to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.
Tampa pulled ahead for good with six runs in the fourth. Rosario (5-6) allowed four consecutive hits to start the inning before the Miracle went to the bullpen. Estrada and Amburgey picked up back-to-back RBI hits while Cornelius drove in two with a double. Connor Spencer also knocked in a pair with a two RBI single.
LaMonte Wade cut a run off the Tampa edge in the fifth with an RBI single, but Jake Skole answered with a solo home run off Miracle reliever Brandon Peterson in the bottom of the fifth, 11-4.
After Wade drove in another run in the seventh, Conde doubled in two more for the Yankees. Murray added an RBI hit in the ninth for the Miracle, 13-6.
