PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets defeated the Daytona Tortugas 5-2 on Thursday at Tradition Field.

The Mets bullpen picked up the team after starter Casey Delgado was knocked out of the game by a comebacker off his shin with one out in the fifth.

Domingo Tapia struck out two batters and stranded the tying run in scoring position in the fifth. In his FSL debut, Alex Palsha pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to get the win. Corey Taylor recorded the final six outs in a non-save situation.

Vinny Siena got the scoring started in the second. He singled home Luis Guillorme, who had previously doubled. Later in the inning David Thompson doubled to bring home Kevin Kaczmarski.

John Mora made it 4-0 in the fifth when he walked, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on Jhoan Urena's sac fly.

Delgado, in his first game for St. Lucie since May 1, retired 11 straight batters until Angelo Gumbs lined a ball off of his shin in the fifth. Delgado was taken out of the game but was able to walk off the field under his own power without a limp. A two-out error on Thompson at third base let Gumbs score and put the tying run in scoring position. Tapia was able to escape the jam by striking out Ty Washington.

Kevin Taylor reached second base in the seventh and was able to score on a pair of passed balls by catcher Chadwick Tromp to put the Mets ahead 5-1.

A one-out RBI single by Gumbs off of Corey Taylor in the ninth gave the Tortugas their final run.

Siena and Mora each reached base three times. Tomas Nido went 2 for 4 to raise his batting average to .314.
