Yankees hand Hudson Valley rare home loss

Fishkill, NY– The Hudson Valley Renegades lost last night to the Staten Island Yankees 9-6 at Dutchess Stadium in front of a sell out crowd of 4,499.

The Renegades fell behind early when the Yankees scored five runs in the second inning. CF Tim Battle drove in the first run of the inning with a RBI single. C Peter Pilittere followed with a two RBI single, 2B Justin Christian had a RBI single and SS Grant Plumley drove in the 5th run with a RBI triple.

The Renegades were down, but not out. They came back to score five runs of their own in the third inning and tie the game. CF Fernando Perez drove in the first two Renegade runs with a RBI double. 3B Pat Cottrell followed with a RBI double and C Ernest Woodruff drove in the last two runs with a two RBI single.

The Renegades took the lead in the 4th on a Cottrell RBI double but that would be the last time the Renegades would have the lead.

Yankee 1B Ben Jones had a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning to tie the game and the Yankees took the lead for good in the 6th inning on a Christian two-run home run.

Brandon Mann (ND) started for the Renegades pitching two innings allowing five runs on five hits and threw three wild pitches. Marcus Barriger (L, 2-2) got the loss pitching four innings in relief allowing five hits and three runs, but only two were earned.

Jesse Hoover (ND) started for the Yankees pitching three innings, allowing five hits and five runs. Eric Abreu (W, 2-0) got the win pitching four innings allowing two hits and one run.

Cottrell was 4-for-4 for the Renegades on the night with one run and two RBI's. Yankees CF Tim Battle was 3-for-5 on the night two runs and two RBI's.

The Yankees and Renegades finish off their five game series tomorrow in Staten Island playing a double header beginning at 6:00 PM. Scheduled to pitch for the Renegades in the first game is RHP Andrew Sonnanstine and RHP Eduardo Delacruz for game two. For the Yankees it will be RHP Jesse Hoover in the first game and RHP Jason Jones in game two.
