Y'alls Offense Struggles in Loss to Lake Erie

Florence Y'alls News Release

Avon, Ohio - The Florence Y'alls (31-45) delivered a similar storyline: great pitching, poor offense. The Y'alls got on the board only once in a 5-1 loss against the Lake Erie Crushers (38-39) at Mercy Health Stadium on Saturday.

Jonaiker Villalobos allowed only two earned runs in five innings pitched to take the tough-luck loss. Lake Erie's Jay Alvarez outmatched him, though, with six scoreless innings and six strikeouts. Florence's defense did not aid Villalobos, who allowed a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning.

Lake Erie scored a run in the second, three in the fourth, and another in the seventh. The Y'alls picked up their run in the top of the seventh on an Alberti Chavez bases-loaded walk. It is their first run scored of the series. That seventh inning represented another missed opportunity as well: The Y'alls stranded the bases loaded in the frame and a total of nine runners tonight. Florence is 0-for-19 with runners in scoring position this series.

Chavez, Ray Zuberer, and Bryant Flete each recorded a base hit and a walk for the Y'alls. Chavez's double in the first inning is the only extra-base hit for the team in the series.

The Y'alls look to parlay more strong pitching with increased hitting in tomorrow evening's series finale. Edgar Martinez, a four-game winner, is scheduled to start for a 5:35 p.m. first pitch in Avon, Ohio.
