Florence Y'alls News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Behind a pair of multi-run innings and a stellar pitching performance from Jonaiker Villalobos, the Florence Y'alls won their first game in nearly two weeks, a 7-0 victory over the Evansville Otters Saturday night at Bosse Field.
The win snaps an 11-game losing streak for the Y'alls, who had not won a game since the series finale against the Gateway Grizzlies on June 26. It is the first time that Florence has shutout an opponent this season, and the seven runs scored ties the most runs the Y'alls have scored since that most recent win versus Gateway.
Jonaiker Villalobos gave the Y'alls a start they desperately needed. The lefty fired seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts. He only gave up two hits and walked just two in his second start of the season against the Otters.
It took until the sixth inning for the Y'alls offense to score, capitalizing on a costly error for a four-run outburst. With a runner on first and one out, a tailor-made ground ball to third was bobbled by Anthony Torreullas resulting in a two-base error. Brennan Price brought home the first run on a fielder's choice ground out, followed by an Anthony Brocato RBI single and an Axel Johnson two-run home run for the 4-0 advantage.
Two innings later, another Evansville error led to three more runs for the Y'alls. Alberti Chavez doubled to start the inning, and an error at shortstop by George Calil ricocheted into shallow left-center field to score Chavez from second. Later in the inning now with two outs, Andres Rios hit a single to right to score Price, and Brocato would score on a wild pitch for a 7-0 lead.
All the Y'alls' runs to score tonight are unearned, including the first four charged to Otters' starter Brett Adcock. The lefty struck out 14 Y'alls batters in the losing effort and allowed just four hits and one walk. Jake Polancic allowed the three unearned runs in the eighth and punched out three of his own.
With the long-awaited win finally under their belts, the Y'alls can try to win the series tomorrow, Sunday, July 10, before a much-needed day off on Monday. The Y'alls have yet to announce a starter for the finale at Bosse Field, a 5:05 PM CDT first pitch. Ryan O'Reilly toes the rubber for Evansville.
