Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
Yakima, Wash. - Baseball fans of the Yakima Valley cast their votes and named the new team that begins play in June of 2014. Now the community will get to see the community-based brand unveiled.
The Yakima Baseball Club will officially announce its team name, unveil the logo, and introduce the manager and baseball operations staff at a news conference Wednesday, December 18 at 1PM at Selah Intermediate School, where they will be joined by more than 800 students, faculty, staff and community members.
"It is truly an honor to be a part of bringing baseball back to a community that has a long history of supporting its team. That's why we wanted the fans to choose the team name," says Noel Zanchelli, Director of Operations for the new franchise. The Yakima Baseball Club set up a website this past fall and took submissions to name the team, which will become the 12th member of the West Coast League (WCL). The Yakima team is owned by Pacific Baseball Ventures, the partnership that also owns the Walla Walla Sweets of the WCL. Members of PBV are also part of the Tacoma Rainiers ownership group. The Rainiers are the AAA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
The press conference will be held in the gymnasium at Selah Intermediate School in Selah, Wash. For visiting community members and members of the media, please park in the north lot and obtain a visitors pass at the school's main office.
"After we tallied the votes for the team name we immediately started working on our logo and uniforms," says Zanchelli. "It took some time, but we could not be happier with the results and we feel it represents the history and future of our Valley very well. I am thrilled to introduce our brand of baseball to the Yakima Valley."
