
X's Sign Foursome of Rookie Pitchers

SIOUX CITY, IA Per league rules, each American Association team must carry a minimum of four rookies on the roster throughout the season. A rookie is classified as a player who has had less than 2 years of experience at a professional level. Today, the Sioux City Explorers have announced the signing of Bryan Wilde, Aaron Correa, Max Whieldon and Geno Glynn. Wilde is returning for his second season with the X's, while the others will suit up for the first time for Sioux City.
As a relief pitcher for the X's, Wilde went 3-1 with a 5.28 earned run average in 2011. He allowed 27 earned runs in 46 innings pitched, while striking out 26 batters. The Cheltenham, PA native pitched at Mansfield University in 2010.
Correa and Whieldon will join Wilde on the pitching staff. The 2012 season will mark the first year for both in professional baseball. Correa, a native of Hilo, HI, was a member of the University of Hawaii-Hilo baseball team for two years. In his senior season, the left-hander led all starters with a 3.97 earned run average. Whieldon, a 6'10" right-hander from Rancho Santa Marganta, CA, played junior college baseball at Saddleback CC (CA) and two years at Seattle University. He appeared in 41 games over those two years at Seattle U, starting 17 games. Both pitchers were signed out of the California Winter League.
Glynn is a rookie pitcher that hails from Waseca, MN, is the son of the current Minnesota Twins Triple-A Field Manager, Gene Glynn. The younger Glynn was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Minnesota State University-Mankato in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft and spent two years in their farm system.
The X's 2012 Home Opener will be Saturday, May 19th versus the Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants in a 7:05pm contest.
