Sioux City Explorers News Release
The Sioux City Explorers announced today that their 2005 Northern League Schedule has been finalized. For the second straight season, the X's will play a 96-game regular season schedule that will feature two expansion teams in western Canada. The X's will be aligned with the two new teams in the North Division along with Sioux Falls, Winnipeg and Fargo-Moorhead.
The X's will open their slate on Friday, May 20, 2005 at Lewis & Clark Park with a three game series against Calgary. Along with Calgary, Edmonton will join the Northern League as the league's expansion teams for '05. Both cities have had triple-A teams in the past few years and will be great additions to the league.
The schedule is highlighted by a 10-game homestand that will stretch from July 1st through the 10th. In that series; Kansas City, Winnipeg and Sioux Falls will play at Lewis & Clark Park. Traditional post-game fireworks displays are expected to take place on the third and fourth of July though that stretch.
The 2005 Northern League All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 19 at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary.
The 2005 Playoff Semifinals open on Tuesday, September 6 with the first two games being played at the home of the first half winners. The second half qualifier hosts the final three games in the semifinals unless one team wins both halves and a fifth game if necessary would take place at that park. The Championship Series begins on Tuesday, September 13. The North Division winner hosts the first two games with all remaining contests in the best of five series being played at the South Division winner's home park.
