Xplosion sign three, release two

PITTSBURGH, January 23, 2007 - The Pittsburgh Xplosion professional basketball team announced today the signing of three players to contracts for the 2006-07 season, pending league approval, including Michael Lasme, Dajuan Tate and Lewis Monroe. The club also released Andre Joseph and Janerio Spurlock.

Looking to shake-up its roster, the Continental Basketball Association franchise added three athletic guards to its lineup.

A veteran of European Basketball, Lasme joins Pittsburgh after playing the last three seasons overseas, including stints in Portugal, France and the Ukraine. Among the top 100 prep prospects as a high school senior, Lasme played one season at Massachusetts capturing Atlantic 10 Newcomer of the Year honors in 2002-03...He transferred to Colorado, but did not compete electing to turn professional in 2004-05.

Tate was an NAIA All-American at Mountain State in West Virginia. He helped the team to a 29-3 record and a NAIA Sweet 16 appearance as a senior in 2005-06. He briefly played in the ABA with the Gallup Outlaws. Monroe finished his collegiate career at Indiana University in 2006. He previously spent two seasons at Auburn. He originally signed with Hamar/Selfoss in Iceland's Express League and then returned state-side to play with the ABA's Tennessee Mudd Froggs.

Joseph had started all 16 games he had played since signing with the Xplosion on December 18. He averaged 11.8 points and 5.1 assists. Spurlock, who helped the Black and Gold to the second round of the ABA playoffs in 2005-06, was the team's second leading scorer at 17.9 points per game this year. Despite a stint on injured reserve, he started nine of 15 games played.
