Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, January 9, 2007 - The Pittsburgh Xplosion today announced the signing of John Strickland, pending league approval. Strickland was officially released by the Minot Skyrockets on Monday.

Strickland averaged 15.9 points and 6.5 rebounds in 17 games for the Skyrockets this season. Last season, Strickland played for the Albany Patroons, averaging 13.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 23 games for the American Conference champions.

"John's going to be an excellent addition to our team," Xplosion head coach Carlos Knox said. "He'll provide us with an excellent post presence to hopefully get plenty of easy baskets."

The New York City native played his final two collegiate years (1993-1995) at Hawaii Pacific University, where he averaged a double-double in each season. He was invited to New York Knicks training camp in 1996.

Strickland has played professionally around the world for over ten years. Besides playing in various United States minor leagues, he has made stops in Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Korea, Argentina, France, Italy, Portugal and Serbia.

Besides Minot and Albany, Strickland has also spent time with CBA franchises in Omaha (1995-96) and Fort Wayne (1998).

One of basketball's more colorful characters on the court, Strickland even spent a brief period with the Harlem Globetrotters in 2005.

Strickland will join the Xplosion at the beginning of their 10-game road trip starting Friday night in Rio Grande Valley. Pittsburgh fans will get their first chance to see Strickland in an Xplosion uniform February 1 when the Atlanta Krunk come to the Petersen Events Center.
