
Xplosion fall to Indiana in Jackson's coaching debut

PITTSBURGH, January, 17, 2007 - Kevin Pittsnogle and Shawn Hawkins led seven players in double-figures for Pittsburgh (2-18), but Indiana (13-8) forced several key turnovers and connected on seven of eight free throws in the final minute to upend the Xplosion in Jaren Jackson's first game as head coach in Continental Basketball Association action at the Mellon Arena, 120-113. Indiana won for the eighth straight time.
As in past games between the two clubs the opening half of play was tight. Indiana took the first quarter, 33-30, but Pittsburgh stormed back to win the second period, 29-25, and led by one at intermission, 59-58.
The Alley Cats grabbed momentum in the third quarter, going up by as many as 10 in the frame, after winning the stanza, 28-21. The Xplosion, however would whittle the lead down and briefly take the lead, 103-102, with 3:41 left after free throws by Janerio Spurlock.
It was a one possession game with 14 seconds remaining and the Xplosion had a chance to tie the game after forcing a five second violation. Spurlock's wild three pointer was off the mark and Indiana iced the game with free throws. Spurlock added 22 points for Pittsburgh and Isaac Jefferson had a double-double with 12 points and 11 caroms.
Indiana claimed six of seven quarter points by winning the first, third and fourth quarters.
Carl Edwards led the Alley Cats with 40 points and Shaun Fountain added 21. Chris Garnett finished with a double-double, adding 12 points and 11 boards.
The Xplosion hit the road for a game at Minot on Friday evening, before returning home for back-to-back contests against the CBA-leading Yakama Sun Kings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
