Indiana AlleyCats News Release

Pittsburgh, PA (January 17, 2007) - The Indiana Alley Cats continued their stellar play as of late by picking up a 120-113 victory over the Pittsburgh Xplosion. The win is their fifth straight on the road and their eighth in a row overall. They picked up 6 quarter points in the game. The Alley Cats forced 21 Xplosion turnovers. Indiana improved to 13-8 on the season.

Carl Edwards helped the Alley Cats build a three point lead at the end of the first quarter by scoring 16 points in the quarter. Pittsburgh fought back to win the second quarter and take a 59-58 lead into the half. Edwards led the Alley Cats with a game-high 20 points at the half, while Kevin Pittsnogle and Shawn Hawkins both had 12 for the Xplosion.

In the third quarter, Edwards picked up where he left off in the first half. Behind his 12 points in the quarter, Indiana was able to take six point lead into the fourth. The final quarter was a wild one. Janiero Spurlock hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining to bring the Xplosion to within three. After Erick Barkley made two free throws, Indiana fouled Marc Williams. He was able to sink both free throws to bring Pittsburgh back to within three with nine seconds left. The Xplosion then forced a 5 second turnover on the inbounds pass. This gave them a chance to tie it. Spurlock must have thought the Xplosion trailed by only two, as he took a shot from inside the arc. The ball bounced over the backboard and Indiana controlled the possession with five seconds to play. After Barkley knocked down two more free throws, Shaun Fountain stole the inbounds pass and laid it up and in as time expired, giving the Alley Cats not only a seven point win, but also a one point fourth quarter victory.

Edwards paced Indiana with 40 points on 17 of 21 shooting from the floor. That matches the single game scoring mark for the Alley Cats this season (Will Caudle had 40 earlier this year). Fountain had his usual superb all-around game. He finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. Chris Garnett posted a double-double (12 points and 11 rebounds), while Barkley just missed one (18 points and 9 assists). J.J. Sullinger, coming off being named the CBA Player of the Week, contributed 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Pittsnogle and Hawkins both led the Xplosion with 24 points. Williams (10 points and 11 assists) and Isaac Jefferson (12 points and 13 rebounds) both had double-doubles. Marvin Phillips and Andre Joseph round out Pittsburgh's scorers in double figures, finishing with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Xplosion fell to 2-18 on the season with the loss.

The Alley Cats return home to host the Yakama Sun Kings, who have the best record in the league, on Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Tip off is set for 7:00 on Friday and 3:00 on Sunday.
