
Xplosion fall to Alley Cats, 111-89

ANDERSON, INDIANA, Jan. 22, 2006 -- The Pittsburgh Xplosion wrapped up a two-game road trip with a 111-89 loss Sunday night to the Indiana Alley Cats, the ABA's top team. Forward Darius Mattear led the Xplosion with 23 points and 15 rebounds and guard Wayne Copeland had an outstanding all-around game with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 9 steals and 5 assists as Pittsburgh's record fell to 13-9. It was just the second loss for the Xplosion in their last 10 games.
The Alley Cats jumped ahead 29 to 15 in the first quarter and outplayed the Xplosion the rest of the way as Carl Edwards scored 21 and Antiony Hardin added 16 in a balanced attack. With the convincing victory, Indiana raised its record to 21-1, the best in the 39-team ABA. Indiana leads second-place Pittsburgh in the ABA's Freddie Lewis Division.
On Saturday night, the Xplosion beat the Toledo Ice 112-99 in the first game of their road trip. Pittsburgh returns home Tuesday, Jan. 24 for a game against the Kentucky Colonels at Mellon Arena.
