Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, March 6, 2008 - For the first time since 1995, a CBA playoff game will be played in the City of Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Xplosion have clinched second place in the CBA's American Conference, and will host a one-game playoff against the third place East Kentucky Miners on Tuesday, March 11. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM at the Petersen Events Center.

"I like East Kentucky's team," Xplosion head coach Carlos Knox said. "That would definitely be a situation where we'd have to really come prepared and come to play."

The Xplosion are 3-4 against the Miners this season, but Pittsburgh is 3-1 at the Petersen Events Center against East Kentucky. The winner will advance to the American Conference Championship Series against the Minot Skyrockets.

"I'm very excited to compete in a playoff game at the Pete," Xplosion and former Pitt forward John DeGroat said. "It's a do-or-die game, and we're not ready to call it quits just yet."

In 1995, the Pittsburgh Piranhas faced the Yakima Sun Kings in the league finals. The Sun Kings prevailed in the best-of-seven series, four games to two.

The festivities begin at 6:00 PM with a Steelers Basketball Team exhibition game against a squad of local celebrities scheduled to be coached by Steelers' legend Franco Harris and featuring world champion boxer Roy Jones, Jr.
