Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2, preparing to start a two-game road trip, announced Wednesday that they have acquired Memphis native WR/DB Larico Cole in a trade with the Quad City Steamwheelers.
Cole, who attended Memphis's Westwood High School before spending his collegiate years at the University of Indianapolis, comes to the Xplorers after spending the last two seasons with Quad City. Memphis Head Coach Danton Barto says he is excited about the addition of Cole to the roster.
"He's an explosive type of player," said Barto. "He's the type of guy who can help us offensively. He'll add a lot of sparks to our offensive attack."
Barto said that Cole's talent has been overlooked somewhat in the past due to Quad City's plentiful receiving corps.
"Larico's been fortunate in that he's always played on good teams," said Barto. "But he's also been a bit unfortunate because he's played on teams with strong talent in front of him."
Through four games with Quad City this year, Cole caught 10 balls for 162 yards and three touchdowns. He leaves the Steamwheelers 5th on the roster in tackles made with 13.0. In limited action last season, Cole finished fifth on the team in receiving, catching eight passes for 110 yards and four touchdowns. He also had six solo tackles and an assisted tackle for a loss.
Cole was acquired by Memphis for future considerations.
Memphis stands at 3-3 on the season, and will have two consecutive road games before returning home to the DeSoto Civic Center for the majority of the month of June.
Memphis will be in action again this Saturday, as they travel to California to take on the Bakersfield Blitz, in the first of two regular season meeting between the teams. Game time is scheduled for 9:05 pm CST. All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC. In addition, all home games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio.
