Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce the team has been assigned former head coach Terry Karg by the arenafootball2 league office. Karg will serve as back-up quarterback to Tim Hicks, and is expected to suit up for this weekend's game against the Cape Fear Wildcats.

"I'm very happy to have Terry join the team," said Pioneers head coach Les Moss. "We had several conversations during the off-season, and I'm thrilled we could get everything resolved. He's going to help our team in many, many ways."

"I'm so excited to have Terry on board," added Pioneers president/GM Dave Berryman. "With all his years of experience, he's going to be a valuable asset."

Karg, who guided the team to a 6-10 record in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 2002 inaugural season, has spent eleven seasons in professional football as a player and coach.

"I thought about it a lot the past few months, and I think the time is right for both me and the team," said Karg. "I'm looking forward to getting out there and doing my part to help the team succeed."

Karg last saw action as a player in the 1998 with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In addition to the Blue Bombers, he has played for the B.C. Loins (CFL), Tampa Bay Storm (AFL), Orlando Predators (AFL), Connecticut Coyotes (AFL), and Scottish Claymores (NFLE).

In 1999, Karg began his professional coaching career as an offensive assistant with the AFL's Portland Forest Dragons. The following year, he was offered, and accepted, the offensive coordinator's job with the expansion Los Angeles Avengers (AFL). He spent two seasons with the Avengers before being named the first head coach of the Pioneers in October of 2001.
