
"X-Men" Do it Again, Defeat Steeldogs 60-24

Birmingham, AL-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 cruised to their best start in franchise history (4-0), defeating the Birmingham Steeldogs (0-3) 60-24 in front of 4,995 at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. This is the first ever victory for Memphis over Birmingham in af2 history.
Memphis offensive specialist Kevin Prentiss earned the offensive MVP of the game with seven catches for 111 yards and four TD's. This is the second time this season that Prentiss has won the honor. Quarterback Brian Jones was great for the Xplorers, completing 9 of 15 passes for 131 yards. He had four passing TD's and also ran in two more, adding to his season rushing TD total of five.
Defensively for Memphis it was Dahnel Singfield, who was the ADT Defensive Player of the Game. Singfield intercepted a pass from Steeldogs quarterback Ray Nelson in the endzone and went 50 yards the other way for the score. Khreem Smith added two sacks to his af2 leading season total of eight. Nate Grace and Lavante Epson also got their first sacks of the season.
The Army Ironman of the game was Scott Cunningham, who had a 21 yard catch and six tackles. One of those tackles was for a two yard loss.
"I am very excited to beat Birmingham for the first time and to be off to a 4-0 start," stated Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto. "This is a big win for this club, and I feel that this will give us great momentum heading into Quad City next Saturday."
Next Saturday the Xplorers will play at Quad City against the Steamwheelers. Game time is scheduled for 7:35. The Xplorers can be heard all season long on Sports Radio WMC The Mighty 790.
