Wyne Signs to Lead Racing's Roster Moves out of NWSL Break
July 27, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Racing Louisville FC News Release
Racing Louisville FC announced on Wednesday a number of roster moves as the NWSL-mandated summer break ends, including the signing of national team replacement player Zaneta Wyne and the departures of midfielder Taylor Otto and winger Sh'Nia Gordon.
Additionally, the club thanks national team replacement players Hannah Adler, Isabella Beletic and Allison Whitfield, whose short-term contracts finished after Racing Louisville's July 15 draw at San Diego Wave FC.
Wyne, a 31-year-old defender, joined Racing in late June from England's West Ham United as several Racing players left to represent their countries in international tournaments. After back-to-back starts, Wyne inked a contract with Racing that runs through the 2023 season.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to continue with Racing," Wyne said. "I'm also looking forward to see what I can help build here."
Otto and Gordon agreed to mutually terminate their contracts with the club to pursue playing opportunities in Europe.
Otto, 24, joined Racing after she was the third player selected by the club in the 2021 NWSL Draft. Hampered by injuries, the former University of North Carolina standout made 11 appearances, including three starts, across all NWSL competitions.
Gordon, 25, played in seven matches this season, starting one. The winger left Russian club CSKA Moscow in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with FIFA permitting the release of foreign players from their contracts if they played there. A veteran of French league soccer, Gordon featured for FC Metz and Dijon FCO before signing with CSKA.
"We want to thank Taylor and Sh'Nia for their contributions to the club and wish them the best in their future endeavors," said Racing's coach, Kim Björkegren. "We have also been pleased with Zaneta's contributions on the field and in the locker room. We are glad to have her on board for the rest of the season and next year."
Adler, Beletic and Whitfield provided depth for Racing with a number of key players away on international duty most of this month. Beletic and Whitfield joined the senior Racing squad from the USL W League team, a pre-professional side affiliated with the youth academy.
