THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia beat Hickory 9-5 on Monday evening. The Crawdads led 1-0 after one and 2-1 after two, but the Power sent 11 batters to the plate in the third, scoring six runs on six hits. West Virginia added a run in the fourth for an 8-2 lead. Hickory got one back in the seventh, the Power added one in the ninth, and the Crawdads plated two in the home half of the ninth. Josh Smith pitched three and a third relief innings for the victory.

OVER EVEN: West Virginia is now 19-18 after Monday's win and begins play tonight with a winning recordfor the first time this season. The current club has the chance to be the fastest team to reach 20 wins in a season since West Virginia's affiliation with the Pirates began in 2009. The 2012 edition of the Power did not win their 20th game of the season until June 9 in their 62nd game of the season. The 2011 club was 20-19 on May 19 after 39 games while the 2010 version was 20-22 on May 22. The inaugural club did not win their 20th game until game 52 on June 2, 2009 (game 52).

BRING TO A BOIL: The Power continue their only 2013 series at Hickory tonight. West Virginia leads the all-time set against the Crawdads 47-39. The Crawdads do hold the lead in their own park, having won 23 times in 42 games at L.P. Frans Stadium since 2005. Hickory will visit the Power in Charleston in mid-August for four games.

HIT ME: West Virginia's pitching staff hit three more batters last night to extend their league lead. Power pitchers have now plunked 38 batters this season, 35 more than Savannah's league low of three. West Virginia's pitching staff has lead the South Atlantic League in hit batters in three our of the four seasons since the became a Pirates affiliate in 2009 and finished third in 2010.

ALMOST E FREE: The Power led all minor league clubs with 50 errors over 26 games during the month of April, but have fared much better defensively in May. A seventh inning error last night was just the eighth this month over 12 games played. That is the third lowest tally of all SAL teams so far in May. Asheville has committed a league-high 22 errors this month while Rome has only been charged with six.

BURNETTE COMES TO POWER: Pittsburgh promoted Jake Burnette to the Power roster from Jamestown on Monday and the right-hander made his South Atlantic League debut last night at Hickory. Burnette was selected in the seventh round of the 2011 draft by the Pirates from Buford High School in Georgia, pitched in the GCL that summer, and started five games for State College last season.

HOLMES DL'D: Pittsburgh placed pitcher Clay Holmes on the Power Disabled List on Monday afternoon with a right ankle injury when Jake Burnette was added to West Virginia's roster. The move was made retroactive to May 9 and Holmes will be eligible to be activated on May 16.

PROMO UPDATE- MAY 18: The Power will host their annual WVU night on May 18 against Lexington. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a Geno Smith bobblehead. All fans will have the chance to meet and greet Kevin Jones, Truck Bryant, and Da'Sean Butler. WVU Night is present by the WV Army National Guard.

POWER POINTS: Tyler Glasnow struck out 19 batters last week over 10 innings of work. The right-hander now has 42 strikeouts over 30 total innings this season... Saturday's doubleheader crowd of 6,860 in Lexington was the largest that West Virginia has played in front of this season. Last night's game in Hickory was 878, marking the smallest crowd the team has played in front of.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost a 5-1 final to Milwaukee at PNC Park. The Brewers scored four over seven innings to pin a loss on A.J. Burnett.... Indianapolis was doubled up by Toledo 6-3... Altoona was off on Monday and opens a three-game series against Trenton tonight... Bradenton scored twice in the eighth to beat Clearwater 5-3. Willy Garcia doubled and tripled in the Marauders victory.
