Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA – Veteran right-hander Jamey Wright, after watching the Kansas City Royals call up an emergency starter from Double-A Wichita for Saturday afternoon's game at Yankee Stadium, put the clamps on the best hitting club in the Pacific Coast League Saturday night at Rosenblatt. Wright (3-2) threw six scoreless innings facing Colorado Springs, which entered the game with a .314 team batting average, to lead the Omaha Royals to a 5-2 win over the Sky Sox.

The 29-year old right-hander allowed only five singles – two of the infield variety – while walking one batter and hitting another with a pitch. Wright struck out two in winning for the third time in his last four outings.

One of the Colorado Rockies top prospects, right-hander Jason Young, suffered his first loss after winning his first four starts. Young gave up five runs on ten hits over five-and-a-third innings.

Calvin Pickering led off the second inning with his PCL-leading 13th home run, giving him a league-high 30 RBI, as Omaha drew first blood. Alexis Gomez, who entered the game in a 4-for-48 slide at the plate, added a two-run triple in the second to make it 3-0. Likewise, Gookie Dawkins emerged from a 4-for-23 funk to contribute RBI singles in the fourth and sixth stanzas.

The Sky Sox pulled to within 5-2 on a two-run double by Garrett Atkins off Mike Venafro in the eighth. But, Rudy Seanez pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.

Omaha (10-13) leads the series with Colorado Springs (11-10) two-games-to-one and the Royals are now 3-4 on the home stand. The series and home stand finale is Sunday at 1:35 p.m.: RH Aaron Cook (2-1, 3.24) vs. LH Chris George (0-1, 2.70). A free Latino Festival follows the game, courtesy of Creighton University Medical Center. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Radio 1490, at www.Oroyals.com and in Spanish on Radio Lobo 97.7 FM.
