Petrick leads Portland rout

EDMONTON, Alberta - Ben Petrick went 5-for-6 and Brian Sweeney won his third straight start as the Portland Beavers defeated the Edmonton Trappers 10-2 at TELUS Field on Friday night.

Rico Washington had three RBIs and Henri Stanley hit his first home run and drew three walks for the Beavers, who collected 15 hits in the game.

The Beavers (10-12) got all of their offense between the third and sixth innings, racing out to their first lead of the game thanks to a four-run third inning.

Portland added a single run in the fourth, a pair in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Sweeney, the reigning PCL Pitcher of the Week, was responsible for both of Edmonton's runs but won his third straight start after allowing seven hits over 6.0 innings. He is 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA (3er, 18.0ip) over those three assignments.

Jeremy Ware had three hits for Edmonton (12-9).

Starter Wilton Chavez took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in 4.0 innings of work.

NOTES: The Beavers improved to 6-20 at TELUS Field ... Portland batters drew nine walks ... the Beavers and Trappers continue their series Saturday at 12:35 p.m. (Pacific) ... the Beavers evened their road record to 7-7 ... the Beavers have won five of their last seven ... Stanley's home run was the first by a Portland batter at TELUS Field since June 9, 2002 ... Petrick is the sixth batter in the team's four seasons to get five hits in a game.
