Austin Wranglers News Release

AUSTIN-The Austin Wranglers announced the signing of six players for the 2007 season including former University of Texas and Texas College defensive lineman Mike Williams. The team also signed offensive lineman Jonathon Dunn, quarterback Matt Kubik, defensive lineman Durrand Roundtree, offensive lineman Jason Russell and wide receiver Tariq "Sakeen" Wright.

"We are thrilled to have signed a skilled pass rusher like Mike Williams, who has a local following from his collegiate days at the University of Texas and Texas College," said Wranglers General Manager Glyn Milburn. "With the AFL's recent rule changes, this will allow us to acquire true position players who will have an immediate impact on the team this season."

Williams (6-3, 245, Texas College), an explosive big play defender, is entering his first AFL season. Williams comes to the Wranglers following his collegiate career that began at the University of Texas (2002-03) and concluded at Texas College. As a linebacker and defensive end for the Longhorns, he tallied 34 tackles, six sacks, 15 quarterback hurries, caused three fumbles and added one fumble recovery. Williams did not play football in 2004. At Texas College in 2005, a member of the Central States Football League (CSFL), he earned All-CSFL first team, All-Region first team and All-American second team for his 77 tackles and 6.5 sacks on the year. An undrafted free agent, he worked out for the NFL's Denver Broncos and New York Giants before signing with the Wranglers.

Dunn (6-7, 324, Virginia Tech), a true offensive tackle, is entering his first AFL season. A seventh round draft pick (217th overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Dunn suffered a season-ending ankle injury in his rookie campaign and was placed on injured reserve. Over the summer, he was a member of the Hamburg Sea Devils practice squad in NFL Europe. Collegiately, Dunn was a three-year starter on the offensive line at Virginia Tech (2001-2004) and was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team as a senior.

Kubik (6-3, 215, Louisiana Tech), a two-year starter for the Bulldogs, is entering his first AFL season. In his collegiate career, he played in 27 games, completing 294-of-554 passes for 4,020 yards and 28 touchdowns. On the ground, he also gained 284 yards and three touchdowns rushing. Kubik is a Youngstown, Ohio native and prepped at Cardinal Mooney High School.

Roundtree (6-3, 255, Maryland), a former Terrapin defensive end, is entering his first AFL season. An undrafted free agent in 2003, Roundtree has experience with the NFL's Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts, along with the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe. At Maryland, he started 29-of-41 games played in his collegiate career, registering 110 tackles (60 solos), with six sacks.

Russell (6-6, 300, Central Arkansas), an offensive guard and tackle, is entering his first AFL season. A member of the Wranglers practice squad for the second half of the 2006 season, Russell then signed with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes but was released due to injury prior to the regular season. An undrafted free agent in 2005, Russell attended training camp with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. Collegiately, Russell led the Central Arkansas Bears offensive line over four seasons, starting 32-of-44 games played and earning All-Gulf South Conference honors in 2004.

Wright (6-3, 225, Rowan), a big and speedy target, is entering his first AFL season. During his senior year, the Rowan Profs star played in 13 games, catching 74 passes for 899 yards and seven touchdowns. Earning first team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference honors, he played a major role in the Profs trip to the NCAA Division III Championship-Semifinals for the second straight year.
