
VooDoo add five to roster with local ties

The New Orleans VooDoo have announced the signing of five players for the 2007 season. The team has added WR Anthony Jones, WR Tyronne Jones, WR Chris Maddox, OL Chris McGee, WR Donovan Morgan and QB Danny Wimprine.
Anthony Jones (5-11, 191, Louisville) went to camp with British Columbia of the CFL in 2006. Jones played at Louisville from 2001-2004 and is a native of Mobile, Alabama. Jones participated in an open tryout conducted by the VooDoo in Shreveport in August.
Tyronne Jones (5-9, 170, Grambling) is a nine-year AFL veteran who has made 522 catches for 6,835 yards with 129 TDs and 305 kickoff returns for 5,705 yards with four TDs, while playing for the Nashville Kats, Georgia Force and Philadelphia Soul. In 2006, Jones was a key member of the Force receiving corps in the postseason. He previously played for Voodoo Head Coach Mike Neu from 1998-99 in Nashville, when Neu served primary play-caller and offensive coordinator for the Kats. Jones will also be reunited with QB Andy Kelly, who he caught passes from in his four seasons in Nashville. The New Orleans native starred at Grambling from 1993-94 and was an All-American running back at Carver High School, where he was a teammate of Marshall Faulk.
Maddox (6-2, 200, Alabama State) was signed by the VooDoo after participating in the team's tryout in Shreveport in August. Maddox played at Alabama State in 2005, where he made 39 receptions for 639 yards (16.4) avg. and eight touchdowns. Prior to coming to Alabama State, Maddox played at Louisiana Tech in 2004.
McGee (6-2, 285, Tulane) went to 2006 training camp with the Atlanta Falcons. McGee started every game at LT for the Green Wave dating back to his redshirt freshman season in 2002, posting a total of 47 starts in 47 games played. He started all 11 games as a senior and earned second-team All-Conference USA accolades.
Morgan (6-2, 195, Louisiana-Lafayette) comes to New Orleans after spending part of 2005 with the Houston Texans, making four receptions for 42 yards. Morgan spent the 2006 preseason with the Texans and the start of the season on Kansas City's practice squad. He originally signed with the New York Jets in 2004. In his first experience with the indoor game in 2005, the New Orleans native and graduate of Sara Reed HS, played for the Tulsa Talons of af2 and led the league in regular season scoring with 57 touchdowns and 1,687 yards receiving. He was named the league's Rookie of the Year.
Wimprine (6-1, 222, Memphis) is a New Orleans native who starred at John Curtis High School. In his four-year college career with the Memphis Tigers, where he ended up as the school's career leader in most major passing categories, completing 782-of-1430 passes for 9,891 yards, 77 touchdown passes and 48 interceptions. he also rushed for 11 touchdowns. As a senior in 2004, Wimprine attained All-Conference USA second team honors, as he completed 199 of 359 passes for 2,568 yards and 18 touchdown passes, while rushing for two more.
