Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - Just over two weeks after inking Carlton Brewster (Grand Rapids, Mich.), the Grand Rapids Rampage have placed him on their "other league exempt" list following his signing with the NFL's Green Bay Packers. The 6-0, 215-pound wide receiver participated in the Packers' training camp this summer before being cut on the league's final preseason cut-down day.

"We're very happy for Carlton as he moves on with the Packers," said Sparky McEwen, head coach and director of football operations for the Rampage. "He put in a lot of work with us in just this short amount of time, and we saw his ability to mature and grow even in that brief period."

Last season, Brewster excelled at Ferris State (Mich.) University, leading the Bulldogs with 60 receptions, 924 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. His 1,185 total yards also led the squad. Brewster ranks second in school history in career receptions (234), receiving yards (3,184) and receiving touchdowns (25).

Following his collegiate career, Brewster signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns, with whom he participated in training camp. He was traded to the Packers midway through the NFL's preseason.

By placing Brewster on their "other league exempt" list, the Rampage retain his rights, though he will not count against the team's roster limit. Grand Rapids currently has signed 23 out of a potential 37 players to its offseason roster.

"This kind of movement can be expected with the new rule changes, as more and more NFL-caliber talent comes into the league," said McEwen, who coached Brewster at Creston (Mich.) High School from 1998-2000. "If it doesn't work out with the Packers, Carlton's always got a spot back here with us."
