October 18, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE-The Nashville Kats agreed to contract terms with four first-year players that are new to the Arena Football League but not to football. The players signed were OL Lawrence Smith, QB James Kilian, WR Tramain Hall, and OL Isaiah Ross announced Head Coach/Dir. of Football Operations Pat Sperduto. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

OL Lawrence Smith (6'3 325 Tenn. State) comes to the Kats from the NFL where he was signed as an undrafted free agent out of college by the Baltimore Ravens and then signed by the Buffalo Bills after two seasons in Baltimore. In 2004, Smith played in all 16 regular season games for Buffalo. Smith was also a four-year starter at Tennessee State, earning All-Ohio Valley Conference second-team honors his junior and senior seasons.

The Kats added their second quarterback of the offseason when they signed QB James Kilian (6'4 215 Tulsa). Kilian was drafted in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and spent time with the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europe before coming to the Kats. While at the University of Tulsa, Kilian was a four-year letterman, playing in 38 games (27 starts) and was 410 of 758 passes for 4, 865 yards which ranks fifth all-time at Tulsa.

WR Tramain Hall (5'10, 190 N.C. State) was signed by the Tennessee Titans as a free agent but was released during a round of training camp cuts. During Hall's three years at N.C. State, he totaled 125 receptions for 1, 466 yards which rank sixth in school history. Hall's 12 touchdown receptions rank eighth all-time in school history.

OL Isaiah Ross (6'3 320 Nevada-Reno) comes to the Kats from the San Diego Chargers where he signed as a free agent in 2004 and NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy where he started 10 games in 2005. Ross began his career at Nevada-Reno as a defensive tackle and posted 25 tackles his freshman season. Ross moved to the offensive side of the ball his sophomore year and anchored an offensive line until graduation. Ross earned All-WAC honors his senior season.

Nashville will continue to sign players in the coming months gearing up for a 2007 season in which the Kats will compete in the AFL's Central Division. The division houses the past two ArenaBowl Champions (Chicago Rush 2006, Colorado Crush 2005) and added the Kansas City Brigade in a realignment change.
