Wozniewski Returns After Brief Boston Stint

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have returned defenseman Andy Wozniewski to Providence. With the move, the P-Bruins have 25 players on their active roster, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.

Wozniewski, 29, is in his first season in the Bruins organization after signing a one-year contract with Boston on September 9. The defenseman was able to get his first taste of NHL action on December 18 and again on December 19 going scoreless in both contests.

The defenseman is off to the best start of his career offensively with 23 points in 29 games for Providence, including six goals and 17 assists. His 23 points, helped by five multiple-point outings, rank him tied for second among all AHL blue-liners in scoring. Wozniewski was named the P-Bruins October Player of the Month after recording 15 points (5g, 10a) in just 10 games.The seventh-year pro split the 2008-09 season between the AHL's Peoria Rivermen and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He began the year with Peoria, appearing in 56 games while registering 17 points (g, 16a) and 56 penalty minutes, before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Danny Richmond on March 4. Wozniewski subsequently finished the year with the AHL Penguins, where he tallied four points (2g, 2a) and 26 PIM in 18 regular season games, along with two points (g, a) in six postseason contests. The native of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, also suited up in one NHL game for St. Louis, going scoreless in 6:44 of ice-time at Columbus on February 3. Overall in 2008-09, Wozniewski dressed for 75 regular season games and scored 21 points, including three goals and a career-high 18 assists. He also set a personal-best with 82 PIM.In his pro career, Wozniewski has appeared in 305 games, including the playoffs, amassing 108 points (28g, 80a) and 302 PIM. He has enjoyed several NHL stints, playing 77 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis, scoring 12 points (2g, 10a) and 81 PIM. In 2007-08, Wozniewski dressed for a career-high 48 NHL games for Toronto, posting nine points (2g, 7a).Prior to turning pro in 2003-04 with the St. John's Maple Leafs, the undrafted Wozniewski played at the college ranks for four seasons, the first for the UMass-Lowell River Hawks and the final three with the University of Wisconsin Badgers. His NCAA career finished with 40 points (11g, 29a) and 213 PIM in 133 contests.Providence is back in action with three games after the holiday break, all on the road. The P-Bruins travel to face the Lowell Devils on Saturday, December 26, for a 7 p.m. start. Providence takes on the Manchester Monarchs at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 27. The P-Bruins then battle the Springfield Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29. Providence is next home on New Year's Day, hosting the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, January 1, for Kids Hat Night. Hats are free to the first 1,000 kids age 12 and under.
