July 7, 2018 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Edenton Steamers News Release

Bryson Worrell's two extra-base hits sailed the Steamers over the Wilmington Sharks 11-9 in 11 innings on Friday night at Buck Hardee Field.

The victory is Edenton's first of the second half, improving to 1-4, while Wilmington's record goes to 4-1.

Worrell towered his third home run of the season in the third inning, a two-run shot to help set the pace of the contest.

He came up clutch once more in the 10th inning, swiping a RBI two-bagger. He finished the game with three runs batted in and three runs scored.

Devon Gardner and Ben Whetstone supplied lots of production as well. Gardner added a double himself and ended the night driving in two runs. Whetstone's two RBI gives him seven through his first 12 games as a Steamer.

AJ Spencer started for the Clams and recorded 11 strikeouts, which ties a season-high for Edenton this season. Three pitchers have fanned 11 batters in three consecutive games. Charles Hall did so on Tuesday night and Ben Anderson matched that total on Thursday.

Spencer tallied five runs over 6.1 innings. Ryan Scharf earned his second win of the season, battling for 0.2 innings in the 10th. Kyle Shimp scooped the save, closing out the game in the 11th.

Anthony Warneke contributed with two hits and two runs from the leadoff spot. TJ Wegmann also concluded with a couple of hits, continuing with his hot bat.

This was the fourth extra-inning game this year for Edenton, now sitting at 3-1 when going past regulation.

For Wilmington, Danny Wilson and Danny Wondrack smacked home runs each. Wilson finished with three RBI.

Keith Gabrielson suffered the loss in the 11th inning after surrendering two unearned runs.

Caleb Bishop was the starter and handed six runs (three earned) in 6.1 frames with five strikeouts.

The Clams return to action on Saturday night at home against the Martinsville Mustangs.
