World Class Women's Pro Softball Coming to Susquehanna Valley
March 17, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.): National Pro Fastpitch Softball (NPF) is coming to the Susquehanna Valley this June. The PA Rebellion, from Washington, PA, will move a three-game series against the USSSA Pride of Kissimmee, Florida to York and Lancaster from June 25-27.
The league is comprised of the very best athletes the sport has to offer including former NCAA Champions and MVPs, former Olympians, and some top international players. NPF is the only professional women's softball league in the country. Currently, former University of Texas All-American pitcher and USA Olympic Gold Medalist Cat Osterman is on the USSSA Pride roster.
The first game will be at York's Santander Stadium on Thursday, June 25 (6:30 p.m.), and games two and three at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster on Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27. The pair of Atlantic League ballparks will be modified to fit the field dimensions for softball, just as Consol Energy Park in Washington, PA is for the PA Rebellion. The Rebellion shares that facility with the Washington Wild Things of Frontier League Professional Baseball. The games in the Susquehanna Valley are part of the NPF's regular season schedule.
Tickets will be $12 apiece and $8 for groups of 25 or more. Revolution full-season ticket holders will be given free tickets, while partial-season plan holders may purchase tickets at just $7, beginning immediately in-person and online. Tickets go on sale to the general public in person and at YorkRevolution.com at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 24 for the game in York on June 25. Tickets for the two games in Lancaster will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 31 at LancasterBarnstormers.com.
The event will begin with a softball clinic for area players at York on Wednesday, June 24 with players from both teams. Details on that clinic will be released at a later time. The Wyndham Garden in York is the official hotel for the event.
"The most accomplished and decorated softball players in the world are coming to the Susquehanna Valley," said Kevin Zavacky, General Manager of the PA Rebellion. "York, Lancaster and NPF are all anxious to see response from the local communities, considering those fans have been so passionate about Atlantic League Baseball in the time they've had their franchises. It's something new and exciting to try in two great markets."
A season ago, the York Revolution enjoyed a full ballpark on their annual Girl's Softball Night, attributed in part to a wildly popular appearance by USA Softball icon Jennie Finch. The former pitcher drew hundreds of fans, some from up to three and four hours away.
"We're intrigued by softball based on the response we've gotten in the past," said York Revolution President Eric Menzer. "It is clearly still a growing sport, and it is thriving at the youth level here in Central Pennsylvania. If there's an opportunity to help grow that game here in addition to baseball, we're going to explore it."
