New Haven County Cutters News Release

The Worcester Tornadoes put on an offensive display that was truly magnificent en route to a 16-9 win over the New Haven County Cutters.

There were multiple stars at the plate for the Tornadoes. Second baseman Alex Nunez did all the hard work in hitting for the cycle, failing only to collect the single necessary to complete the feat, while driving in three runs and scoring two. Nunez?s double-play partner Omar Pena was not to be overshadowed by his impressive night, collecting three hits in four at bats with five RBIs and two runs scored.

After falling behind 3-0 early in the game, the Tornadoes scored 16 unanswered runs. The Cutters managed to scrape six runs across the board in the bottom of the ninth, but the game had long been over.

Worcester starting pitcher Ed Riley walked six batters but was able to keep the Cutters in check after they pushed runs across in the first and second innings. After his five innings of work, the bullpen did their job as the Tornadoes pulled farther and farther ahead. Nunez, Alex De Los Santos and Danilo Reynoso each had a home run, the most allowed by the Cutters at home all season.

New Haven County?s first baseman Bill Peavey was one of the bright spots for the Cutters on Tuesday night, going three for four and adding to his team leading RBI total by two.

Rolando Valles will pitch for the Cutters on Wednesday as they look to rebound and snap their current two game mini-losing streak. Worcester sends Alex Pena to the hill.
