WORCESTER - After the Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Brockton Rox in 14 innings the night before, they had a quick turnaround with a matinee game against the Torrington Titans on Tuesday morning, July 28 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

For the second time in as many games, Worcester went to extra innings but ended up on the losing end of a 7-5 final.

The Titans held a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, but Worcester responded with a dose of second baseman Derek Gibree (Saint Leo / Largo, Florida). Gibree broke the shutout with an RBI single, and he came around to score the second run of the inning on a wild pitch.

With the bases loaded and one out in the 8th inning, Gibree stepped back up and smacked a 3- RBI double to right field to tie the game at 5-5.

The rally took away a decision from Torrington starter Nick Johnson (URI / Worcester) who struck out 11 and gave up just two hits in six scoreless innings of work.

Despite coughing up the lead, Torrington scored the go-ahead runs in the 10th inning thanks to back-to-back errors by shortstop Gavin Tristan (Lamar / Richmond, Texas) and second baseman Derek Gibree. Bravehearts outfielder Ian Strom (UMass Lowell / Hopedale) pitched 1.1 innings in relief and took the loss, as he was on the mound in the 10th.

The Bravehearts had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the 10th, but Torrington pitcher Alex Fishberg got the win by striking out Strom who represented the tying run.

Worcester will hit the road to face the Nashua Silver Knights at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday night, July 28 at Holman Stadium in Nashua, New Hampshire. Tickets for all future Bravehearts games are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
