Worcester Red Sox News Release
WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester Red Sox will provide complimentary "Twilight Tours" of Polar Park to fans who make a purchase of $20 or more in the team store from 5-7:30 p.m. while the team is on the road today through Friday, August 12, and again on Monday, August 22, through Friday, August 26.
In addition, fans can enter to win the opportunity to throw a Ceremonial First Pitch during the final homestand of the season against the Syracuse Mets (Triple-A, New York Mets) Tuesday, September 20, through Sunday, September 25.
The team store's normal hours Monday through Friday are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. By extending the store's hours during the team's two road trips this month, the club hopes to accommodate fans who work during the store's normal hours.
"Twilight Tours" will be led by WooSox Ambassadors immediately after fans make their purchases.
Fans can learn about the inspirations behind the many artistic, architectural, and operational elements of Polar Park, from PawSox and WooSox baseball history to the 30-year partnership between Janet Marie Smith and WooSox Chairman and Principal Owner Larry Lucchino, who together created Oriole Park at Camden Yards, saved Fenway Park, and designed Polar Park.
In addition, fans can learn about Worcester's deep baseball roots by viewing a Worcester Worcesters display and the original "Casey at the Bat" manuscript, written by Ernest Lawrence Thayer in Worcester.
COOL, NEW "RUBY LEGS" AND "WICKED WORMS" MERCH
The special "Twilight Tours" offer includes all items in the team store, including the cool, new merchandise that was revealed as "an early Christmas present to fans" at the "Christmas in July" game Friday, July 22.
Before the Worcester Red Sox were nicknamed the WooSox, fans submitted 218 name suggestions. Next season, the club will participate in Minor League Baseball's "What If?" promotional series, when at special games they'll transform into two of the more humorous ideas: the "Worcester Ruby Legs" and the "Wicked Worms of Worcester."
The "Worcester Ruby Legs" pays homage to the nickname associated with the Worcester Worcesters of the 1880s, and the "Wicked Worms of Worcester" pays tribute to Worcester's "Wormtown" nickname.
