AUGUST 13th BUFFALO (22-19)/(57-59) at WORCESTER (25-15)/(61-50) 6:45 pm

Buffalo Bisons RHP Josh Stephan (6-5, 5.25) vs. Worcester Red Sox RHP Jedixson Paez (NR)

Welcome to the Team - Tonight, for the fifth time in just over a month, the Worcester Red Sox will welcome a new young pitcher from Double-A Portland to make his WooSox and Triple-A debut when they send 22-year-old RHP Jedixson Paez to the mound this evening in game three of their 6-game series against the Buffalo Bisons (AAA-Toronto) at 6:45 pm at Polar Park. Worcester has won each of the first four times a Portland starter debuted with the WooSox. On July 8th, LHP Hayden Mullins, promoted from Portland a day earlier, made his WooSox debut in Game 1 of a doubleheader vs. Rochester in a 3-1 Sox win (3 IP, 1 R). RHP Blake Wehunt was next and in Game 1 of a doubleheader on July 22 vs. Jacksonville he went 3.2 innings, allowing 2 runs in a 3-2 WooSox win. RHP John Holobetz was the starter and winner in his Worcester debut on July 30 at Norfolk, 3-1 (5.2 IP, 1 R). This past Saturday (August 8), RHP Gage Ziehl tossed 5.2 scoreless innings to get the victory in his WooSox debut, 19-0 over Lehigh Valley. And now Paez, who made his Major League debut with the Chicago White Sox at the beginning of this season, takes the mound for his first WooSox appearance. Tonight's game is live on NESN+ and can be heard on NASH 98.9 FM.

Back on Track - After consecutive losses this past Sunday in their series-finale vs. Lehigh Valley, 7-6 and Tuesday night in the series-opener vs. Buffalo, 9-6 - the first time that Worcester had dropped back-to-back games since July 17 & 19 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre - the WooSox got back on the winning track with a 2-1 victory over the Bisons yesterday to even this series at one win apiece. Worcester has won 5 of their last 7 games, 9 of their last 12 overall, 13 of their last 16 home games, has gone 16-4 since July 22, and they are 25-9 since June 28. The WooSox have still not lost 3 straight games since they began the 2nd half with an 0-5 record from June 23-27.

The Race Is On - Worcester has rebounded quite nicely since that 0-5 start to the 2nd half and their current 25-15 record in the 2nd half has put the WooSox (now the IL East leader) alone in 2nd-place overall in the 20-team International League and just a 1/2 game behind Indianapolis (the IL West leader). The best second half record among all 20-teams in the league earns the one playoff spot that comes with that and a date with 1st half champ Memphis in a best 2 out of 3 series from September 22-24 in Tennessee. The winner of that series goes to Las Vegas to take on the Pacific Coast League champion in a one-game Triple-A National Championship Game on September 26. Worcester has 34 games remaining (16 home & 18 away).

The probable pitching match-ups for the remainder of the series vs. Buffalo at Polar Park this week and weekend:

Fri. 6:45 pm NESN+ (Tape) RHP John Klein (2-4, 5.94) vs. RHP Gage Ziehl (1-0, 0.00)

Sat. 4:05 pm NESN RHP CJ Van Eyk (5-3, 3.63) vs. RHP Blake Wehunt (1-1, 3.60)

Sun. 1:05 pm NESN+ RHP Grant Rogers (3-9, 5.88) vs. RHP John Holobetz (1-1, 2.77)
